Just how remarkable is Oranje-Rood’s unbeaten run?

The Oranje-Rood men’s team have earned themselves a place in the history books. Coach Ageeth Boomgaardt’s side are now unbeaten in thirty league matches in a row. Only four other clubs in the history of the Hoofdklasse have ever reached that milestone.

Oranje-Rood extended this impressive run last Sunday with a 3-2 home win over Bloemendaal. This brings the tally to thirty consecutive league matches without defeat: 23 wins and seven draws.

Their last defeat dates back to 12 April 2025, when Oranje-Rood lost 2–1 away to Bloemendaal. Two weeks later, the current run began with a 4–1 home win against Klein Zwitserland.

Since then, Oranje-Rood have not lost a single match in the regular league.

105 goals in thirty matches
It is not just the length of the run that stands out; the goal statistics are also impressive. Oranje-Rood scored 105 goals and conceded 45 in those thirty matches. That works out at an average of exactly 3.50 goals per match.

During that period, the team kept seven clean sheets and failed to score on just one occasion: in the 0–0 draw against Rotterdam on 26 October 2025.

By far the most prolific player in the run is Struan Walker. The Scot scored 35 of Oranje-Rood’s 105 goals, accounting for exactly one-third of the team’s total output. He is followed by Borja Lacalle with fourteen goals and Henrik Mertgens with thirteen.

Only four clubs have gone before Oranje-Rood
An unbeaten run of at least thirty matches is extremely rare in the Hoofdklasse. Oranje-Rood is only the fifth club to achieve this. The all-time record has been held by Klein Zwitserland for over 45 years. Between 4 May 1978 and 3 May 1981, the Hague-based side remained unbeaten in no fewer than 65 league matches in a row.

KZ won 54 of those matches and drew eleven. Their goal tally during that period was 265 for and 64 against. The run began with a 1–1 draw at Kampong, three days after KZ had lost 2–1 away to HGC. It was not until 10 May 1981 that things went wrong again: Oranje Zwart won 3–2.

Amsterdam also came close to the forty-match mark. From the start of the Hoofdklasse in September 1973, Amsterdam remained unbeaten for 39 matches (W24 D15). In those matches, the team scored 85 goals and conceded just 26. The run ended on 3 May 1975 with a 2–3 home defeat against Kampong.

Third place goes to Bloemendaal. Between 30 April 2017 and 15 March 2019, they went 37 matches without defeat (W28 D9). During that run, The Mussen scored 120 goals and conceded 32. Remarkably, Kampong featured at both ends of that run: a 1–3 defeat to Kampong preceded it, and a 1–2 home defeat to the same opponent brought the run to an end.

Kampong themselves also reached the thirty-match mark. Following their 2–5 defeat at Rotterdam on 19 March 2017, the Utrecht side went on to remain unbeaten in thirty league matches in a row (W24 D6). During that run, Kampong scored 116 goals and conceded 46. Following their 7–2 victory away at SCHC on 2 September 2018, the tally stood at thirty. Five days later, Bloemendaal brought the run to an end with a 1–2 victory in Utrecht.

A visit to the national champions
The question now is just how much further Oranje-Rood can extend this historic run. A tough test awaits them this coming Sunday, as the Eindhoven side travel to face reigning national champions Rotterdam. Oranje-Rood certainly have fond memories of their last encounter in the port city. On 19 April, the team won 1–4 there. That match was part of the current run of thirty.
