Behind the scenes of hockey: Bloemendaal launche new documentary series
Clubs and players are increasingly offering a glimpse into their lives as top-level hockey players. Following earlier documentaries on Kampong and Xan de Waard, amongst others, Bloemendaal is now also opening its doors to the camera.
The women of Bloemendaal take centre stage in the new three-part documentary series *Buiten de Lijnen*. The production follows the team during matches and training sessions, as well as during technical meetings, match preparations and other moments that normally remain off-camera. The first episode was released on Friday 30 October on Bloemendaal’s YouTube channel.
Among other things, the series looks back at last season’s Gold Cup victory and shows how the team is trying to build on that success. The players’ personal stories are also featured. How do they balance playing hockey at the highest level with their work or studies? And what role does the Women’s 1st Team play within the club? The third episode focuses on the connection between the first team and Bloemendaal’s youth teams.
‘This series brings the Women’s 1st Team closer to the audience. You don’t just see their performances on the pitch, but also their ambition, the dynamics within the team and what it takes to combine top-level sport with work or studies,’ says Michiel Hilders, board member for Elite Hockey & Sponsorship at HC Bloemendaal. ‘Our aim is to inspire young hockey players both within and outside HC Bloemendaal and to show them just how accessible top-level sport can be.’
More than just the match
With *Buiten de Lijnen*, Bloemendaal joins the ranks of previous hockey documentaries that shed light on the sport from a different angle. Kampong and Dutch international Xan de Waard have also previously been the focus of video productions that take the viewer into the world behind top-level hockey. It’s not just the goals and results that matter here, but also the preparation, the personal stories and everything that happens off the pitch.
These productions will be brought together in a special YouTube playlist on the Hoofdklasse website. There, the documentaries about Bloemendaal, Kampong and Xan de Waard can be found all in one place. This gives hockey fans the chance to get to know their favourite clubs and players from a completely different perspective.
The second episode of ‘Buiten de Lijnen’ will be released on 6 November, and the third and final episode on 14 November. The series can be viewed on Bloemendaal’s YouTube channel.
