That’s how important Frédérique Matla’s goals were for Den Bosch
Eight days to go until the start of the Staatsloterij Hoofdklasse. We’re counting down to the start of the league with a statistic every day. Today, we’re focusing on the value of Frédérique Matla’s goals.
Matla opened the scoring eight times last season, more often than any other player in the Staatsloterij Hoofdklasse Women’s League. The Den Bosch striker scored five of those opening goals from open play and three from penalty corners.
Her first came straight away in the opening round, away at Tilburg. Her last followed on the final day against Oranje-Rood, when she made it 0–1 as early as the second minute. The longest-awaited opening goal came against Pinoké: it was not until the 54th minute that Matla put Den Bosch ahead.
Most opening goals in the 2025–2026 season
- 8 – Frédérique Matla (Den Bosch)
- 6 – Jip Dicke (SCHC)
- 5 – Imke Verstraeten (Amsterdam)
- 4 – Carlijn van Geest (HGC)
- 4 – Demi Hilterman (Bloemendaal)
- 4 – Sosha Benninga (Kampong)
- 4 – Katerina Langedijk (Amsterdam)
An early goal from Matla proved to be an excellent omen for her team. Den Bosch won all eight matches in which they opened the scoring. They did so four times at home and four times away from home.
Matla finished the regular league season as the top scorer in the Hoofdklasse Women. She scored 24 goals: ten field goals, twelve from penalty corners and two from penalty strokes. This put her ahead of SCHC players Yibbi Jansen (22 goals) and Jip Dicke (20).
