Goalkeeper Verbeek leaves Oranje-Rood for German top club

Oranje-Rood goalkeeper Nieki Verbeek has found a new club. The 21-year-old goalie from the Eindhoven club has opted for a move abroad to German side Uhlenhorst Mülheim.

At Oranje-Rood, Verbeek was long regarded as the successor to Pirmin Blaak, who left the Eindhoven club after the 2024 Games. In the 2024–2025 season, he still shared the goalkeeping duties with Tobi Walter, but newcomer Santiago ultimately won the competition for the starting spot last season. As a result, Verbeek was the second-choice goalkeeper for the entire season.

Last winter, Verbeek was still playing for the Dutch Under-21s at the Under-21 World Cup in India. At his new club, he hopes to be in contention for the league title. Last season, Uhlenhorst reached the final of the Bundesliga play-offs, where they lost 4–0 to Hamburger Polo Club.
