Kampong and Pinoké winners of the ABN AMRO Hockey Weekend
The Kampong women’s team and the Pinoké men’s team won the ABN AMRO Cup in Rotterdam on Sunday. Kampong beat Bloemendaal 3–2, whilst Pinoké proved too strong for Den Bosch in a high-scoring final (4–3).
Kampong found themselves 0-2 down against Bloemendaal shortly after half-time. Sophie Thoolen and Ankelein Baardemans had put The Mussen ahead, but the match turned on its head in the closing stages.
Mikki Roberts brought the tension back with a penalty corner, after which Bente van der Veldt emerged as the match-winner with two goals. Her winning goal came five minutes from time. With that, Kampong won the cup for the second year running – a feat previously achieved only by SCHC.
Miles Bukkens scores a hat-trick for Pinoké
The men’s final also provided plenty of excitement. Pinoké and Den Bosch scored no fewer than five goals in the first eighteen minutes. Miles Bukkens and Joep Troost scored for the Amsterdam side, whilst Timo Boers prevented Pinoké from pulling ahead early on with two well-taken penalty corners. After the break, Koen Bijen levelled the score for Den Bosch: 3–3.
However, Bukkens had the final say once again. The forward converted a penalty stroke six minutes from time, thereby completing his hat-trick. Thanks to his third goal of the afternoon, Pinoké won 4–3 and added the ABN AMRO Cup to their trophy cabinet for the first time.
Kampong and Pinoké thus round off their pre-season preparations with the first major trophies of the new hockey year. The real work begins for both clubs this coming weekend, when the new season in the Staatsloterij Hoofdklasse gets underway.
Hattrick Miles Bukkens bij Pinoké
Ook de mannenfinale leverde volop spektakel op. Pinoké en Den Bosch maakten in de eerste achttien minuten liefst vijf doelpunten. Miles Bukkens en Joep Troost scoorden voor de Amsterdammers, terwijl Timo Boers met twee rake strafcorners voorkwam dat Pinoké vroeg afstand nam. Na rust bracht Koen Bijen Den Bosch op gelijke hoogte: 3-3.
Het laatste woord was echter opnieuw aan Bukkens. De aanvaller benutte zes minuten voor tijd een strafbal en voltooide daarmee zijn hattrick. Dankzij zijn derde doelpunt van de middag won Pinoké met 4-3 en voegde de club de ABN AMRO Cup voor het eerst aan de prijzenkast toe.
Kampong en Pinoké sluiten de voorbereiding zo af met de eerste hoofdprijzen van het nieuwe hockeyjaar. Komend weekend begint voor beide clubs het echte werk, wanneer het nieuwe seizoen in de Staatsloterij Hoofdklasse van start gaat.
