First hat-trick earns Maria Steensma a club record at Pinoké

With that, Steensma is now Pinoké’s all-time top scorer in the Staatsloterij Hoofdklasse Women. She has overtaken her former team-mate Kari Stam, who scored 34 goals for Pinoké.

This record-breaking run – spread over eight Hoofdklasse seasons – began almost exactly seven years ago. Steensma scored her first Hoofdklasse goal on 27 October 2019, in Pinoké’s home match against Bloemendaal. It marked the start of a steady climb up the club’s all-time scoring charts.

Her most prolific season to date was 2022–2023, when she scored eight times. In 2020–2021 and 2021–2022, she scored five goals, a tally she also matched in 2024–2025. This season, after five match rounds, she has already scored four: one against Den Bosch and three against Victoria.

Particularly dangerous from open play
What is particularly striking is the way in which Steensma has scored her 36 goals. Twenty-seven came from open play, accounting for exactly three-quarters of her total tally. She scored the remaining nine goals from various penalty corners, as she did last Sunday. On that occasion, she tipped a drag push from Sam Luttmer high into the net.

Incidentally, the fact that Victoria had to concede their first Hoofdklasse hat-trick is not entirely coincidental. Against the Rotterdam-based club, Steensma has now scored seven league goals – more than against any other opponent. Rotterdam themselves follow with six goals conceded, and Bloemendaal with five.

The hat-trick against Victoria was therefore a fine way to set a new club record. Before Sunday, Steensma had never scored three times in a single Hoofdklasse match. Now she has done so just as she was set to take the top spot on Pinoké’s all-time top scorers list.

Vooral gevaarlijk uit veldspel
Opvallend is vooral de manier waarop Steensma haar 36 goals heeft gemaakt. 27 kwamen voort uit het veldspel, goed voor precies driekwart van haar totale productie. De overige negen doelpunten maakte ze vooral uit varianten van strafcorners, zoals afgelopen zondag tegen Victoria. Toen tipte ze een sleeppush Sam Luttmer hoog tegen de touwen.

Dat Victoria haar eerste Hoofdklasse-hattrick moest incasseren, is overigens niet helemaal toevallig. Tegen de club uit Rotterdam maakte Steensma inmiddels zeven competitiegoals, meer dan tegen iedere andere tegenstander. Rotterdam zelf volgt met zes tegentreffers, Bloemendaal met vijf.

De hattrick bij Victoria was daarmee een fraaie manier om het clubrecord te pakken. Steensma had vóór zondag nog nooit drie keer in één Hoofdklassewedstrijd gescoord. Nu deed ze dat juist op het moment dat ze de koppositie op de eeuwige topscorerslijst van Pinoké kon grijpen.
