A quick recap (1): five striking stats from last season
In twelve days’ time, the new season in the Staatsloterij Hoofdklasse kicks off. Before then, let’s rewatch one last time: five striking statistics that made last season shine, starting with the women’s competition.
1️⃣ SCHC scored the most goals
SCHC finished top of the regular league table last season and were also the most dangerous team. With 79 goals, the team scored the most of any side, evenly split between home (40) and away (39) matches. Amsterdam followed closely behind with 76 goals (38 at home, 38 away).
2️⃣ SCHC also the best defensively
Defensively, too, SCHC were unbeatable last season: in eleven of their 22 matches, the team kept a clean sheet – more often than any other side. They managed this five times at home and as many as six times away. Den Bosch and Kampong shared second place with eight clean sheets each.
3️⃣ A flawless season for SCHC
If you compare their home and away records, you’ll see that SCHC remained unbeaten throughout the season: seven wins and four draws in their eleven home matches (25 points) and ten wins and one draw in their eleven away matches (31 points). Den Bosch were the closest challengers in terms of home performances (24 points) and Amsterdam in terms of away matches (29 points).
4️⃣ Oranje-Rood struggled to score
Whilst SCHC were unstoppable, the opposite was true for Oranje-Rood: the team failed to score in nine of their 22 matches, more often than any other team (Rotterdam and Tilburg followed with eight). On two occasions, this resulted in heavy defeats for the Eindhoven side: 6–0 against Den Bosch and against Amsterdam.
5️⃣ Den Bosch dominant after taking a 1-0 lead
Last season, Den Bosch proved unbeatable in matches where they took a 1-0 lead. Coach Marieke Dijkstra’s side won all sixteen matches in which they opened the scoring. Amsterdam also performed exceptionally well, with fifteen wins from sixteen matches in which they opened the scoring. Bloemendaal and relegated Tilburg, by contrast, relatively often let a lead slip: both teams won only 38 per cent of those matches.
HDM and Tilburg never once came back last season after conceding the first goal (both won none out of fourteen). SCHC was the only team that still won regularly after falling behind (three times in five matches).
