Unprecedented: three 9–0 thrashings in 21 days
Just three days to go until the start of the Staatsloterij Hoofdklasse. Every day, we’re counting down to the start of the competition with a special fact. Today, we’re focusing on last season’s landslide victories in the men’s competition.
Three matches in the Hoofdklasse Men ended 9–0 last season. Amsterdam beat Laren by that scoreline, Rotterdam did the same against Hurley, and Den Bosch made short work of Schaerweijde. These were the three biggest wins of the season.
Remarkably, the first two 9-0 victories took place on the very same afternoon. On 5 October, Amsterdam beat Laren 9-0, whilst Rotterdam, at the same time, defeated Hurley by the same scoreline. Amsterdam were already leading 6-0 at half-time. Boris Burkhardt and Dayaan Cassiem both scored hat-tricks; Luke Dommershuijzen scored twice and Mustapha Cassiem once.
For Rotterdam, the goals were shared amongst six players. Pepijn van der Heijden was the most prolific player with three goals. Tjep Hoedemakers scored twice, whilst Guus Jansen, Menno Boeren, Timme van der Heijden and Matthijs van der Wielen each scored one goal.
Three weeks later came the third 9–0 victory. On 26 October, Den Bosch thrashed Schaerweijde. Timo Boers scored four goals from penalty corners and Jaïr van der Horst scored twice. Max Pastoor, Max Kreft and Koen Bijen rounded off Den Bosch’s biggest victory of that season.
Three 9–0 results in a single league season are historic. From the start of the Hoofdklasse in 1973 until last season, only seven matches had ended 9–0 or 0–9. Never before had that scoreline occurred more than once in the same season. In 2025–2026, it happened no fewer than three times within a span of just 21 days.
