Top scorers: Matla and Jansen off to a flying start, Boers also on form
During the second match round of the Staatsloterij Hoofdklasse, Timo Boers scored his first goals of the season: he netted a hat-trick against Tilburg. In the women’s competition, Frédérique Matla and Yibbi Jansen continued their productive start to the season with two goals each.
Staatsloterij Hoofdklasse Women
Frédérique Matla and Yibbi Jansen have made a flying start to the season. Matla scored twice for Den Bosch away at HGC (0–5) and has already netted five goals for Den Bosch after two match rounds. This equals her best-ever start to a league season, from the 2020–2021 and 2021–2022 seasons.
Jansen scored twice for SCHC in their away match against Rotterdam (a 1–4 victory), doubling her tally from the first match round. With four goals from her first two matches, she has equalled her personal best from the 2021–2022 season.
Behind Matla and Jansen, the name of Charlotte Schrijvers stands out. The Oranje-Rood forward has single-handedly accounted for her team’s three goals this season. Schrijvers has already scored more often than in either of her two previous seasons (two goals on two occasions).

Staatsloterij Hoofdklasse Men
After two match rounds, Fabian Verzuu is the surprise top scorer in the Staatsloterij Hoofdklasse Men. Following his hat-trick in the opening match against Schaerweijde, the HDM forward also scored against Oranje-Rood on Sunday. With four goals, Verzuu remains just ahead of Duco Telgenkamp (Amsterdam) and Timo Boers (Den Bosch).
The latter got his scoring campaign in this league underway on Sunday with a hat-trick away at Tilburg. It was already the ninth hat-trick in the Hoofdklasse for the Den Bosch penalty corner specialist, breaking a club record.
Meanwhile, the South African brothers Dayaan and Mustapha Cassiem have also returned to the top scorers’ list, with two goals each. An interesting fact: the brothers have now been responsible for at least one Amsterdam goal in thirteen (!) consecutive Hoofdklasse matches. The last league match in which neither brother scored was on 9 November 2025. Amsterdam drew 1–1 away at Schaerweijde that day. Since then, at least one of the two South African internationals has found the net in every league match.
