Stella van Gils calls time on her hockey career
At the age of 27, Stella van Gils has brought her top-flight hockey career to an end. After four seasons, the midfielder is leaving Amsterdam to focus entirely on her professional career as a dentist.
Van Gils played for Pinoké for sixteen years before moving to Amsterdam in 2022. Last May, she won the national championship with the Amsterdam side after they triumphed in the shoot-out series against Den Bosch.
Van Gils made eighteen appearances for the Dutch national team and won gold with them at the 2021 European Championships at the Wagener Stadium. She was also a reserve for the national team at the Tokyo Olympics that same summer.
On Sunday, ahead of their home match against Oranje-Rood, Amsterdam will officially bid farewell to the midfielder.
