Matla reaches the 300-goal mark for Den Bosch

Matla started the match in Wassenaar with 298 club goals to her name. After 28 minutes of play, her 299th goal came from a penalty corner. Twelve minutes before the final whistle, she made it 0–5 with a field goal, which was also the final score.

Matla scored her first official goal for Den Bosch on 10 March 2013. As a sixteen-year-old, she opened the scoring in the 5–1 home win against Pinoké. More than thirteen years later, she finds herself in an exclusive group. Only Paumen, with 474 official goals, and Donners, with 348, have scored more often for the Den Bosch side.

Of Matla’s first three hundred goals, 220 were scored in the regular Hoofdklasse. In addition, she scored 23 goals in the play-offs for the national title, 25 in the Gold Cup and 32 in European competitions. Her versatility is also evident in the way she scores. Her first twenty club goals all came from open play. Penalty corners and penalty strokes have now also become regular features of her scoring: in addition to her 136 field goals, she has converted 133 penalty corners and 31 penalty strokes.

Matla scored for Den Bosch in fifteen consecutive seasons. In each of the last eight completed seasons, she scored at least 25 goals and finished as the club’s top scorer. Her personal best dates back to the 2021–2022 season, when she scored no fewer than 53 official goals. Last season, she accounted for 35 of Den Bosch’s 79 goals: over 44 per cent.

Pinoké, against whom she has conceded 35 goals, is her favourite opponent. It was against that team that she also enjoyed her most prolific afternoon: on 8 December 2019, Matla scored seven of Den Bosch’s eight goals in a 0–8 victory.

But she also regularly made her mark in the battle for the titles. For instance, in the 2021 play-off final against Amsterdam, she scored the only goal in both matches. Three years later, she once again secured the national title for Den Bosch by scoring all three goals in the decisive 3–2 victory over SCHC.
