Matla leads Den Bosch to a comfortable victory over Pinoké
Den Bosch are the first leaders of the Staatsloterij Hoofdklasse. The runners-up won 7-1 against Pinoké on the first round. National champions Amsterdam kicked off with a 4-1 victory over Oranje-Rood. SCHC had their hands full against HGC, but won 2-1 thanks to two goals from Yibbi Jansen. Kampong beat Bloemendaal 3–0, and Rotterdam came out on top in the city derby against Victoria: 1–3.
SCHC - HGC 2-1
Yibbi Jansen proved her worth to SCHC straight away in the season opener. With two goals from penalty corners within four minutes, the international turned a 1-0 deficit around. HGC had surprisingly taken the lead seven minutes before Jansen’s first goal through Carlijn van Geest, who finished off a counter-attack following a failed penalty corner by SCHC.
The victory meant SCHC remained unbeaten against HGC for the eighteenth time in a row. Coach Robbert van de Peppel’s side are also unbeaten in 37 consecutive regular league matches. At home, SCHC are now on a run of nineteen matches without defeat. Pien Dicke was forced off through injury for the home side.
Victoria – Rotterdam 1–3
The Rotterdam city derby went Rotterdam’s way. The visitors won their first head-to-head clash in the Hoofdklasse since 2007. Rotterdam took the lead after just five minutes through Amber van den Dijssel, who tapped the ball in from close range. Ten minutes later, Joy Haarman equalised, scoring against her former club.
Thirty seconds after the break, Victoria, who were promoted to the top flight last season, had the chance to take the lead. However, Claire Moerman saw her penalty stroke hit the post. At the other end, Rotterdam were prolific from the spot. English newcomer Biba Mills scored her first goal in the Hoofdklasse. Just before full-time, Noor Omrani sealed the victory for coach Jorge Nolte’s side with a backhand. This marked Rotterdam’s first victory on the opening day of the Hoofdklasse in seven seasons.
Amsterdam – Oranje-Rood 4–1
The reigning national champions secured a comfortable home victory over Oranje-Rood. Amsterdam found the net after just two minutes. Following a run by Felice Albers down the right, Fay van der Elst slotted the ball into the net. In doing so, she scored the first goal of the season in the Staatsloterij Hoofdklasse.
It was not the first time Van der Elst had scored on the first round of the season. It was already her tenth goal on the opening day across the past six seasons. Marijn Veen scored twice and Imke Verstraeten was also prolific from a penalty corner for Amsterdam. With the score at 4–0, Charlotte Schrijvers pulled one back for Oranje-Rood.
Bloemendaal – Kampong 0–3
Kampong kicked off the season with a 3-0 victory over Bloemendaal. For the home side, the defeat meant they equalled a negative club record: Bloemendaal have now failed to keep a clean sheet in 24 consecutive home matches.
Mikki Roberts, who joined from Tilburg, scored her first goal for her new club from a penalty corner after twenty minutes. Iris de Kemp then doubled the lead following a superb pass from Eline Jansen, before Bente van der Veldt sealed the 0-3 victory.
Kampong have scored in each of their last 39 away matches in the Hoofdklasse. That is by far the longest run in the club’s history. During that run, the Utrecht-based side scored 102 goals.
Den Bosch – Pinoké 7–1
Pinoké is Frédérique Matla’s favourite opponent, and that was evident on the first round of the season. The striker scored three goals in Den Bosch’s 7–1 victory, bringing her tally against the ‘Steekneuzen’ to 34 goals. Charlotte Englebert, who had opened the scoring, also scored three goals. Joosje Burg was also prolific for the Den Bosch side.
Den Bosch newcomer Isis van Loon had a goal disallowed. At the other end, Maria Steensma scored following a fine individual move. Lana Kalse had a chance to score a second goal for Pinoké, but her penalty stroke was saved by goalkeeper Josine Koning.
The victory marked Den Bosch’s 26th home win against Pinoké in the Hoofdklasse.
HDM – Hurley 1–2
For the fourth time in their last five meetings, Hurley emerged victorious against HDM. Fleur Loomans put the visitors from the Amsterdamse Bos ahead after twelve minutes. Margot van Hecking Colenbrander could have doubled the lead, but saw her penalty stroke sail wide of the HDM goal.
After the break, Teuntje Horn made it 0–2. Kaat Walhof brought the tension back by scoring for HDM, but the Hague side failed to find an equaliser. Hurley are therefore unbeaten in their last four Hoofdklasse matches. HDM suffered their fifth consecutive league defeat.
