Rotterdam suffers third straight loss as Amsterdam wins again
Reigning national champions Rotterdam have suffered their third defeat in a row. At the Oosterplas on Sunday, coach Jeroen Hertzberger’s side lost 4-3 to Den Bosch. League leaders Amsterdam, by contrast, secured their third league win in a row by beating Pinoké 2-1 in the Bosderby. Bloemendaal showed no mercy to Schaerweijde, who lost 9-1 and are now bottom of the table. Tilburg are still without a goal after three rounds.
Den Bosch – Rotterdam 4–3
The statistics had already suggested that there could be plenty of goals. In the last four meetings between Den Bosch and Rotterdam, a total of 28 goals were scored – an average of seven per match. That average was matched on Sunday at the Oosterplas.
In the ninth minute, Timo Boers put Den Bosch ahead from a penalty corner. A minute later, it was Boers again who made it 2–0 with a blistering push. Before the end of the second quarter, Guus Jansen scored the equaliser from a difficult angle. Rotterdam then had the chance to level the score. However, Pepijn van der Heijden’s penalty stroke was saved by Den Bosch goalkeeper Alexander Stadler. Seven minutes before half-time, Max Kreft restored the two-goal lead following a pass from Thierry Brinkman. Early in the fourth quarter, Timme van der Heijden reignited the tension, and with six minutes remaining, Joaquin Menini equalised after a solo run.
A green card for Rotterdam broke the defending champions’ momentum. Den Bosch capitalised and saw Kreft tap in the 4–3 at the far post with two minutes remaining.
Another defeat for Rotterdam. Never before has a reigning national champion started the Hoofdklasse with three consecutive defeats. The team are tenth. Den Bosch are third in the table with seven points from three matches.
Amsterdam – Pinoké 2–1
Even after three league matches, Amsterdam remain unbeaten. Pinoké were defeated in the Bosderby at their home ground, the Wagener Stadion. Boris Burkhardt scored both goals for the league leaders. Joep Troost scored the equaliser in between.
For Pinoké, it was their first defeat of the season, bringing an end to a run of seven unbeaten league matches. Amsterdam have won their last five Hoofdklasse matches and are now unbeaten in six games.
Bloemendaal – Schaerweijde 9–1
The crowd at ’t Kopje were treated to no fewer than ten goals. Much to the delight of the home supporters, Bloemendaal scored nine times. And this despite the visitors taking a bold lead after seventeen minutes. Pepijn Leenhouts slotted home from a penalty corner. Schaerweijde could not enjoy that lead for long. A minute later, Wiegert Schut equalised. Shortly afterwards, he provided the assist for Casper van der Veen, who made it 2-1. It was the first of a total of three goals that the Bloemendaal striker would score in the match.
Schut sealed the final score with his second goal. Floris Wortelboer, Lucas Veen, Bautista Capurro and Tobias Bovenlander were also prolific, as Bloemendaal has now scored in 84 consecutive league matches.
The victory means Bloemendaal are now unbeaten in seven league matches. Schaerweijde suffered their fourth consecutive defeat at the top level and have failed to keep a clean sheet in 36 matches.
Klein Zwitserland – HDM 2–2
The Hague derby ended in a draw, although HDM came very close to their first win at Klein Zwitserland since 11 September 2022. It was Aki Käppeler who, with just five seconds left on the clock, scored the 2-2 equaliser from a penalty corner. HDM took the lead on two occasions through Fabian Verzuu. His two goals took his season tally to six. Sam Lane was on the scoresheet for the 1-1 equaliser. The New Zealander scored from a penalty corner. With this draw, Klein Zwitserland have now gone four home matches without a win. HDM have now gone five away matches in a row without a win.
SCHC – Tilburg 1–0
The clash between the newly promoted sides went in SCHC’s favour. The home side secured a narrow victory over Tilburg. The only goal came in the fourth quarter and was scored by Conor Empey, who found the net from a penalty corner variation.
For the Bilthoven-based side, it was their first win of the season and their first in the Hoofdklasse since 12 April 2025, when they beat Klein Zwitserland 3-2. This brought an end to a run of five league matches without a win. Furthermore, it was SCHC’s first Hoofdklasse victory over Tilburg (1–2) since 27 March 2011.
With four points from three matches, SCHC sit in eighth place. Tilburg are eleventh with zero points from three matches and a goal difference of 0–9.
