A high-scoring match round with 35 goals, close to a record

The third match round of the Staatsloterij Hoofdklasse Women produced no fewer than 35 goals on Thursday evening. This makes it one of the six highest-scoring match rounds ever in the history of the Hoofdklasse.

The women’s Hoofdklasse record remained out of reach on Thursday. That stands at 39 goals in a single match round and has been achieved twice: on 7 May 2006, during the final match round of the 2005–2006 season, and on 23 September 2012, in the second match round of the 2012–2013 season. This is followed by three match rounds with 37 goals, from the 1999–2000, 2010–2011 and 2014–2015 seasons.

Club record for Kampong
Kampong made the biggest contribution to the goal tally: coach Kai de Jager’s side accounted for almost a quarter of all the goals of the evening in their away match against Victoria (0–8).

Striker Bente van der Veldt scored three, helping Kampong to equal their biggest ever away win in the Hoofdklasse. Only on 26 October 2003 had Kampong previously won away by such a large margin: on that occasion, they defeated Bloemendaal 0–8.

A rare result: 5–5
Bloemendaal once again played a starring role in a goal-fest on Thursday evening. The home match against Pinoké produced ten goals and ended in a spectacular 5–5 draw.

Ankelein Baardemans scored three of Bloemendaal’s five goals, her first hat-trick in her Hoofdklasse career. Together with the eight goals scored in the Victoria-Kampong match, that fixture accounted for well over half of Thursday’s total tally.

The 5–5 draw was only the fourth in the history of the Hoofdklasse Women. The previous one dated back almost sixteen years: on 7 November 2010, Amsterdam and Den Bosch were locked at that score. Prior to that, HDM-SCHC on 9 December 2007 and Gooische-Were Di on 18 October 1981 also finished 5–5.

Yibbi Jansen’s personal record
Alongside Van der Veldt and Baardemans, SCHC player Yibbi Jansen also scored a hat-trick. This brought her season tally to seven goals, a new personal best after the first three match rounds.

Jansen shares the top spot on the top scorers’ list with Frédérique Matla, who scored both goals in Den Bosch’s 0–2 victory over HDM. Matla also has seven goals from three matches. This equals her best start to a league season, from 2021–2022.
